FRANKFURT (AFX) - Deutsche Telekom AG has rejected an offer by Vivendi SA to buy the German firm's 49 pct stake in Polish mobile operator Polska Telefonia Cyfrowa (PTC) for 2.5 bln eur, the Financial Times Deutschland reported. The newspaper cited company sources as saying Deutsche Telekom remains convinced selling its PTC stake is not an option. Vivendi confirmed yesterday it had offered to buy the shareholding. Deutsche Telekom declined to comment. The two western European companies have been embroiled in a long-running legal battle over ownership of PTC. Until now, the German incumbent has held at least 49 pct of PTC, with the balance owned by the Elektrim Telekomunikacja (ET) holding, a joint venture set up between Vivendi and Poland's Elektrim. Since 2004, courts in Austria and Poland have ruled that Elektrim had no authority to incorporate its PTC stake in ET. Deutsche Telekom has meanwhile exercised an option to buy Elektrim's PTC stake, raising its own stake in PTC to 97 pct. Vivendi in turn challenged the legality of this transaction. |
